Turn over the envelope labeled Room 5

As you near the exit, you wave your hand to activate the motion sensor for the Clubs’ sliding glass door. You walk through it confidently and find yourself in the most elaborate and ornate room yet. It’s a two-story room with twelve submarine-style steel doors engraved with the twelve symbols of the zodiac.

The walls, floor, and ceiling are painted like space, with glowing stars and constellations. Along one of the walls is a large light-up board with a variety of symbols on a backdrop of the night sky. You notice that anywhere you touch the board it lights up and you suspect you will need to draw connecting lines between the symbols in some way.

On the opposite end of the room is a human-sized replica of the Trojan horse. And, as you’ve grown accustomed to by now, there is a table with a variety of paper elements, including a brochure for a godly tattoo parlor, and what looks like an invoice accompanied by a catalog page for ancient Greek sporting equipment. There are also two transparencies with mazes that seem to be based on the mythic stories of Theseus and Perseus. You pull out your trusty handbook and decide to get to work. By now you are barely surprised at the extent of this convoluted madhouse. And right on schedule, the Gate Keeper begins orating.

Listen to the audio file and then open the Room 5 envelope.

TRANSCRIPT Good work Detective! But there is no rest for the wicked. Welcome to your penultimate challenge. You have done well, and, thanks to me, your hubris seems to have been kept in check. Don’t let your success so far change that! You are not out of Tartarus yet. And the task before you is daunting. Unlike previous rooms, where the number of doors has been somewhat limited, you are now faced with twelve doors, eleven of which lead to eternal misery. You should know detective, that while I find Roman mythology to be a cheap knockoff of Greek mythology, my knowledge of it is still extensive and I advise you to acquire some of this knowledge yourself. What is the best way to do this, you ask? Examine the handwritten hint sheet I have provided; it will be your guide. The remainder of this room is dedicated to the warriors and heroes of Greek mythology. This seems fitting given the battle you find yourself ensnared in. Familiarize yourself with the greatest heroes in all of mythology and pay heed to their successes to learn how you might come out victorious. I have tried to lighten the tension for you a bit by putting a modern twist on ancient mythology. For example, I imagined what a divine tattoo parlor on Mount Olympus might look like. I tried to picture what sorts of tattoos the gods would get. I envision them getting tattoos uniquely suited to them, but that got me thinking: what if you stripped the gods of their most famous attributes to the letter? What would be left? Also imagine if Hephaestus had a side gig running an apparel company; perhaps it would be known as Over Armour. He would have used this company to make armor and weapons for the most famous heroes. Unfortunately, in my scenario, his accountant was not very good, and lost track of who placed what order. Based on your mythological knowledge can you help Hephaestus figure out who the orders belong to? It will require meticulous review of the Over Armour catalog then scouring every line and word of the handbook.
